Juniper Jumps into access control, Fast personalizes enterprise desktop search, MySQL overhauls open source database, Systinet eases Web services construction

Juniper jumps into access control

Juniper Networks announced the availability of its Enterprise Infranet Controller, an end-point security and network access control system built on the policy and control engine of its Secure Access SSL VPN products. The heart of the product is the Infranet Controller appliance, which pushes an on-demand host-checking Infranet Agent to each connecting client and makes access policy decisions based on user role and current state of the host system. Noncompliant end points, such as those lacking anti-virus or firewall software, can be steered to a remediation site or security zones on the network. The Infranet Agent, as well as any Juniper firewall updated with ScreenOS 5.3, can handle enforcement.

Fast Search & Transfer, an enterprise search player, has thrown its hat into the crowded desktop-search ring. The company introduced The Fast Personal Search Platform, an extensible framework that can tie into back-end apps and Web search. Based on the Fast enterprise search technology, Fast PSP is a customizable platform that includes APIs for connecting to apps such as CRM and ERP and for embedding proprietary features. PSP uses techniques such as entity extraction, query operators, and advanced navigation to search text, data, e-mail, audio, images, and video.
