Company teams with Sun, RSA

Caveo Technology Group entered the Secure Socket Layer virtual private network (SSL VPN) market Wednesday with a security appliance that leverages technology developed by Sun Microsystems and others.

Dubbed AccessAnywhere, the device uses SSL technology built into Sun’s Java System Portal Server and Sun’s Sunscreen firewall; two-factor authentication services from RSA Security and remote access software from Tarantella.

Caveo is taking a different approach to the market than most others in this space, according to Gord Hogg, a partner at the company.

“Unlike niche SSL VPN providers, we’re providing a secure box that provides access to all enterprise applications,” said Hogg. “We do client/servers, mainframe and Unix-based applications too.”

Hogg explains that the AccessAnywhere appliance is ideal for remote customers and future additions to the product will include anti-virus and intrusion detection technologies.

Others in this space include NetScreen, which acquired Neoteris in November, Aventail, Netilla, and Nortel Networks.

The appliance is available immediately and is priced at $32,995.
