Acquired products will enable customers to make custom and integrated portals

IBM Corp. on Tuesday said it acquired Bowstreet Inc., a provider of portal development tools, for an undisclosed sum. Bowstreet’s technology helps companies easily combine applications, documents, databases and other enterprise information into an integrated portal application.

Bowstreet’s technology will allow IBM customers to quickly make custom and integrated portals. Over the last three years, more than 100 customers have used Bowstreet technology with IBM Rational software to build portal applications and those users found they could build the applications faster than when using other portlet tools, IBM said in a statement. A speedy development process can reduce costs and produce business benefits quicker, IBM said.

The acquisition will contribute to IBM’s strategy around service oriented architectures. Bowstreet’s technology will be used by IBM customers within their IBM WebSphere Portal environments.
