OPEN-SOURCE DATABASE VENDOR MySQL is readying a certification program for release in the first quarter of 2003 to validate developers’ credentials pertaining to MySQL and related MySQL products. The company on Monday plans to announce that VUE Testing Services will provide electronic testing for the upcoming certification program. MySQL certification can be earned with the successful completion of one exam once the program is in place, according to MySQL and VUE. The program will initially provide for two certifications, MySQL Core Certification and MySQL Professional Certification. Core Certification is intended for MySQL users who want proof of prowess in the fields of SQL, data entry and maintenance, and data extraction for reporting. Professional Certification is for the user who has more experience and wants credentials to prove knowledge in such areas as database management, installation, security, disaster prevention, and optimization, according to MySQL.
