Hardware show was postponed last month due to SARS Postponed last month due to fears of severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS), Computex, one of the world’s largest IT hardware shows, has been rescheduled for Sept. 22-26, according to the show’s organizers.Held annually in Taipei, Taiwan, Computex was originally scheduled to be held from June 2-6. The show’s organizers, the Taipei Computer Association (TCA) and the China External Trade Development Council (CETRA), decided to postpone the show after a survey of buyers and exhibitors indicated that attendees were concerned about the spread of SARS and wanted to see the exhibition postponed.SARS has spread rapidly in Taiwan during recent weeks, with 610 probable cases and 81 deaths, according to the World Health Organization (WHO). However, the WHO noted in a statement that the lower number of new cases reported in Taiwan over the past few days indicates that the SARS outbreak there is in decline. While the Computex show won’t be held until September, TCA plans to offer a virtual exhibition on its Web site, http://www.computex.biz/, from June 2 through July 31.
