Windows OS also included

Pursuing enterprise departments and smaller businesses, Oracle and Dell Computer are offering a package featuring a Dell PowerEdge server bundled with the Oracle Database10g Standard Edition One database and the Microsoft Windows Server 2003 operating system.

Part of Oracle’s “go-to-market” agreement with Dell, the package is intended to enable ease of deployment and also provide easier database management. A customized dashboard enables users to perform common Oracle administration tasks while the one-stop purchasing approach provides hardware and software with a contract to license the database. The package is available from Dell featuring a PowerEdge 2850 server. The platform will be available with a PowerEdge 2800 server in the fourth quarter of this year.

Prices for the PowerEdge 2850 bundle start at approximately $15,000, including a Dell PowerVault 220S external storage system. The PowerEdge 2800 package will start at approximately $8,000.

Dell and Oracle previously have offered a package featuring Dell PowerEdge 2600 or 2650 hardware, an Oracle database, and the Red Hat Linux or Windows operating system.
