Chipmaker also slashes tags on some Xeons For the second time in as many months, Intel on Monday reduced the prices for some models of its processor line, with the price of desktop Pentium 4 processors and some Xeon processors being cut by as much as 21 percent.The price cut affects 10 models of Intel’s Pentium 4 processor, with the steepest cuts — 21 percent — coming for the 2.5GHz, 2.53GHz, 2.6GHz and 2.66GHz models. These chips are now priced at $193, $193, $241 and $241, respectively, according to the most recent price list for 1,000-unit quantities posted on Intel’s Web site.The 2.2GHz and 2.26GHz chips as well as both versions of the 2.4GHz Pentium 4 processors, which employ either a 400MHz or 533MHz front-side bus, have all had their price reduced by 16 percent to $163. The smallest price reductions were reserved for the 2.8GHz Pentium 4, reduced by 6 percent to $375, and the 3.06GHz Pentium 4, cut by 8 percent to $589. On the server and workstation side, Intel has cut the prices on five models of its Xeon processor line. The 2.6GHz and 2.66GHz Xeons saw the sharpest price cut, dropping 16 percent to $273 and $284 respectively. The price of the 2.4GHz Xeon with a 533MHz front-side bus dropped 11 percent to $209 while the prices for the 2.4GHz Xeon with a 400MHz front-side bus and the 2.2GHz Xeon were both reduced by 12 percent to $198.The most recent price list also includes pricing for Intel’s 3.06GHz Xeon.
