ClearPath Plus Libra 185 supports J2EE, .Net, XML, SOAP, UDDI Unisys introduced a new high-end mainframe Monday which offers companies expanded support for application development and Web services standards, along with bolstered storage, memory and processing speed.The ClearPath Plus Libra 185 was designed to adapt to changing business needs, Unisys said, and offers more scalability and development support than previous mainframes.The Libra 185 supports both .Net and J2EE (Java 2 Enterprise Edition) application development, as well as the XML (Extensible Markup Language), SOAP (Simple Object Access Protocol) and UDDI (Universal Description, Discovery and Integration) Web services standards. Unisys has added a new CMOS processor with 25 percent more scalability than its predecessor, the Libra 180, the company said. The mainframe can be configured with up to 32 CMOS processors and 24 Intel Xeon processors. The number of processor partitions has also been bumped up, from two to eight.Memory has been boosted to 64G bytes and the mainframe has a new I/O technology that increases throughput, Unisys said.The company also added infrastructure for metered performance provisioning, allowing companies to increase or decrease performance based on computing needs. Unisys said that it is currently beta testing a pay-for-performance provisioning service which will be available later on.
