Linux extender, data monitoring offered

Pervasive Software and OuterBay this week made moves in data management, with Pervasive extending database access to Linux and OuterBay unveiling a software suite for application data life cycle management.

Pervasive on Tuesday announced Remote Data Requester for Linux, an extension to the Pervasive.SQL database that enables companies to connect Pervasive databases to Linux-based devices such as desktops, point-of-sale systems, set-top boxes, and medical equipment. The requester is available for free at www.pervasive.com/linux.

The product supports transactional and relational data access methods, Austin, Texas-based Pervasive said.

OuterBay, meanwhile, on Monday announced Application Data Management (ADM) 3.0, a software suite to provide a unified view of data growth and the ability to monitor and manage data across applications, databases, and storage infrastructure, based on life cycle value. Enterprises can maintain application performance by relocating inactive or closed data out of the production environment, OuterBay, of Campbell, Calif., said.

Version 3.0 features forecasting, policy enforcement for data retention, pre-packaged support for patches, and real-time access to archived data. It supports compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley, HIPAA, and SEC regulations. The Developer Edition of the product extends support to customized applications and databases.
