Net Return gets distribution rights

SAN FRANCISCO — NetLedger, a San Mateo, Calif.-based provider of online applications for small and medium-size businesses, has struck a deal with an Australian company to offer its NetSuite product there, the company said Thursday.

Internet services firm Net Return of Sydney has been appointed as the exclusive master distributor of NetSuite in Australia and will partner with other companies to resell it, NetLedger and Net Return said in separate statements. Potential resellers include accounting companies, a NetLedger spokeswoman said.

NetSuite, aimed at businesses with between five and 500 employees, is an integrated application suite accessed via the Web. It allows users to perform tasks including accounting, inventory management and customer relationship management.

NetLedger is customizing NetSuite for the Australian market, the product should be available in the fourth quarter, NetLedger said. Pricing will start at $64 per month including support, the company said.

The announcement marks NetLedger’s second move outside the U.S., after moving to the U.K. with a subsidiary of BT Group in October last year. NetLedger at the time said its move into Australia and New Zealand could be announced by the end of 2002. That was held back because of the time needed to get the product ready, NetLedger said.

The distribution agreement with Net Return also covers New Zealand, however Net Return wants to focus initially on Australia, NetLedger said.

NetLedger is a privately held company majority owned by Oracle Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Larry Ellison. The company claims it has about 7,000 customers. Chief rivals include Salesforce.com and UpShot.
