Group to promote visualization devices

In a bid to promote the adoption of 3D visualization devices and related content, five companies have joined forces to create the 3D Consortium, they announced Tuesday.

The consortium will work to develop new I/O devices for 3D stereographic displays and create compelling 3D content that will drive the purchase of those devices, it said. Members of the consortium include Itochu,, NTT Data, Sanyo, Sharp, and Sony.

The initial companies will be known as steering members of the consortium, which will also include over 60 other members, including hardware, software, and content-creation companies, it said.

The group will focus on potential applications of 3D technology such as computer-aided design, medical imaging, entertainment, and advertising, among other things.
