Intel unveils tools for Linux apps

INTEL ON WEDNESDAY announced tools intended to help developers analyze and optimize Linux-based applications on Intel Pentium 4 and Xeon processors. The VTune Performance Analyzer 1.0 for Linux is an analysis tool supporting Linux-based applications, the company said. The tool identifies lines of code in applications that consume excessive amounts of processor resources. Developers can use this analysis to address performance bottlenecks. Also unveiled was Intel VTune Performance Analyzer Driver Kit, which includes open-source drivers for VTune Performance Analyzer, enabling the tool to be used with unsupported Linux distributions and customized kernels. Intel VTune Performance Analyzer 1.0 for Linux, to be showcased at the LinuxWorld Conference & Expo in New York next week, has a suggested list price of $699 and is to ship next month.
