Acquired mobile solutions now part of iAnywhere unit Sybase has completed the acquisition of AvantGo, a maker of software for mobile devices, Sybase said Wednesday.AvantGo is now part of iAnywhere Solutions, a subsidiary of Dublin, Calif.-based Sybase that sells mobile, remote, embedded and workgroup databases and mobile middleware, Sybase said in a statement.The cash deal, valued at $38 million when announced in December, will help Sybase’s position in the market for mobile middleware for enterprises, and expand the reach of iAnywhere into the wireless arena, Sybase has said. AvantGo makes software that is used to synchronize handheld devices such as PDAs (personal digital assistants) with PCs. Other AvantGo products link mobile devices to CRM (customer relationship management) applications.AvantGo’s popular, free “My AvantGo” service for downloading Web pages to handheld devices will be continued and expanded.
