NewsGator pulls Weblogs, news into Outlook folders

Reinacker & Associates this week rolled out a content aggregator designed to integrate news content feeds from multiple Web-based sources such as Weblogs or news sites into Microsoft Outlook folders.

NewsGator 1.0 is capable of retrieving content from Weblogs and other Web sources that support the RSS Web content syndication format. RSS, which stands for Really Simple Syndication, is a dialect of XML.

The tool allows users to view Weblog posts in the same application as e-mail and to leverage the organizational features in Outlook to sort by source, date, or other fields, according to the Highlands Ranch, Colo.-based company. NewsGator periodically checks a user’s subscriptions to find new content and then delivers the articles or posts to the designated e-mail folders.

The product also includes a NewsPage feature, which summarizes all unread posts in the news folders to provide an at-a-glance view of the content, according to company officials.
