Find out about the ongoing evolution of open source BI, Kettle, and Mondrian at this bay area event.

Open source up-and-comer Pentaho has a Partner Summit scheduled for April 2-3 in Menlo Park, Calif., focused on BI, open source, and cloud computing. Pentaho has a very strong open source Business Intelligence suite, competing against the big BI vendors for a fraction of the price. Its two-day event includes both technical and business sessions and will showcase interesting BI solutions built by partners.

I’ll be giving a short talk on how open source has reached a major inflection point recently. I see lots of evidence from open source companies, industry analysts, and most importantly from customers, that open source software adoption is accelerating. I believe there are several factors at play here, including the downward pressure on IT budgets, the fact that open source software has gone beyond just “good enough” to now be better than closed source for some applications, and finally that open source companies are savvier in their own marketing.

At any rate, if you’re interested in working with Pentaho as a partner, it looks to be a good event with all of the key technical and businesspeople in attendance. CEO Richard Daley, open source guru Bernard Golden, and super-investor Larry Augustin will also be presenting alongside technical visionaries like Julian Hyde of Mondrian and Matt Casters of Kettle.

Also, for those who missed it, I joined the board of Pentaho last year.
