Fanboys rejoice, your Palm OS apps will run on the Palm Pre! This week at O’Reilly’s Web 2.0 conference, Palm announced that the forthcoming Palm Pre will be able to run the “Classic” Palm applications from the Treo using an emulator created by third-party developer MotionApps. This is good news for longtime Palm users who may have grown addicted to some old-school apps. I’m not sure anyone is going to care about running the old Palm calendar or contacts programs, but for third-party applications, this will be quite useful. There’s an app I use for logging my running, and being able to run that on the Palm Pre is a nice touch. And based on the faster performance of the underlying processor, the Classic apps should run about twice as fast, Palm says. Technology Industry
