Company combines acquired and in-house technologies in one application performance optimization package

Compuware this week began offering Gomez adVantage, a solution for optimizing application performance that combines the company’s Vantage monitoring software with Web site performance measurement technology acquired from Gomez.

The combined product, Compuware said, addresses a market need for end-to-end performance management of applications that span the enterprise and Internet.

The product features cloud-based Gomez Web performance monitoring with behind-the-firewall Vantage Real-user monitoring, united in a single dashboard.  Application performance can be optimized across an entire application delivery chain, Compuware said.

Gomez enables monitoring of Web pages or complex business transactions using Web 2.0 technologies such as Adobe Flash and AJAX. Users also can measure and manage cloud provider performance and service-level agreements.

“Gomez measures individual Web sites and provides performance measurements for them and [it does] that from an SaaS-based offering in the cloud,” said Terry Harshfield, director of product management for Vantage. Performance levels are presented back to lines of business.

Vantage Real-user monitoring provides visibility into end user experiences for users, applications and transactions regardless of underlying physical, virtual or cloud technologies. Insight is offered into business impacts by showing the number of users affected by monitored transactions. Monitoring also is featured between server tiers, providing information on response times for database and middleware transactions.

“Vantage provides visibility into application performance as well as what we call fault domain isolation, which provides a level of visibility into how, if applications are performing poorly, where in the application delivery chain is that problem being introduced,” Harshfield said.

Gomez advantage costs $10,000 for a monthly subscription that includes consulting services.
