Although this is a 1.0 beta release, the company since June has had a release numbered 0.1 that had not been publicized. New in this release is the addition of Google News results and Maps results in five additional countries: France, Italy, Germany, Spain and Canada. Also featured is targeted advertising alongside AJAX Search API Web results; this feature currently is in the experimental phase and advertisers will not be charged for ads clicked. Google with the API is looking to make it easier for developers to build their own search-based applications, Tom Stocky, Google product manager, said. The general release date for the API has not yet been determined. The API beta is available here. Technology Industry
