Veeam Software's R&D department is moving with speed and precision, unveiling its second software product in the virtualization market a week apart -- this time, Monitor 3.0 Beta. The R&D team at Veeam Software has been a busy bunch of people. Last week, the company announced the GA release of its latest backup solution, Veeam Backup 2.0. And now today, Veeam is unveiling the Beta release of Veeam Monitor 3.0. Veeam Monitor was built from the ground up to simplify performance monitoring of the entire VMware Infrastructure. And the company prides itself on listening to the feedback and requests of its consumers. Looking at a bit of history, the folks who helped to start Veeam are some of the same people that set up Aelita Software, which itself was acquired by Quest Software back in 2004. And after Quest Software completed its acquisition of Vizioncore in 2008, the two companies are now finding themselves going head-to-head with a number of virtualization application products — with backup and monitoring being two of those key product areas. But as I’ve stated before, Veeam doesn’t wait around for anyone. Ratmir Timashev, Veeam president and CEO, stated as much last week. The company quickly releases its products to market, gathers customer feedback during normal use, and then very quickly creates a stronger version of the product based on that feedback. Veeam Monitor 2.1, the company’s current GA version, was only released around five months ago. There are quite a few new features being added into this product. For enhanced scalability, the product now monitors multiple VirtualCenter instances from a single console. Multiple alarm sources have been added into the product as well: VirtualCenter events, VM Heartbeat, VM State, and the total number of VMs with a given state on a specified VI object. Capacity planning and trend analysis have also been added. Veeam said that the new Trend Reporting feature allows you to discover trends and do proactive capacity planning in the environment. You can project how your virtual environment will grow over time; find out how resource usage is changing for a specified host, resource pool, or datacenter; and plan upgrades or migrations based on what you learn. You can also drill down into the VM. Veeam Monitor 3.0 provides the ability to drill down to an individual VM and find out what processes are running there so that you can find out how much CPU and memory they are consuming. And when you connect to VirtualCenter for the first time, Veeam Monitor 3.0 fetches all historical performance and event data from it, giving you the ability to immediately browse and analyze historical data. You can read more about these new features. And then, when you are ready, you can download the Beta of Veeam Monitor 3.0. Software Development
