Best of the blogs: Apple finally goes with AMD. Just not exactly the way that may sound. “The question is, will Apple keep using ATI, which is being acquired by AMD (it’s all over but the foregone shareholders’ vote), as a supplier for its critical graphics components?” asks Tom Yager. “On August 7, I predict that Apple will claim the distinction of being the first first-tier vendor to integrate 64-bit Core Microarchitecture CPUs across its notebook, desktop, workstation and server products.”

SOA: One day after scooping up Webify, IBM keeps its buying spree alive by purchasing MRO Software, along with its asset and service management wares, which Big Blue says it plans to integrate into its own systems based on a service-oriented architecture.

The news beat: One might not typically think of Bill Gates and Karl Marx alongside each other, but the Microsoft founder took a place on China’s influential foreigner list, joining Marx and Nikita Khrushchev. An upgrade to MSN Spaces blogging and social networking service is plagued by performance problems. And Gateway says it will use Intel’s Core Duo 2 chip in the E-6610 PC, which can be configured as high-end desktop or a workstation.
