Virtualization security vendor Reflex Security rebrands itself as it expands into management

The company formerly known as Reflex Security is now known as Reflex Systems after the company decided to rebrand and announce the name change this week.

Reflex Security has gained a strong reputation for their virtualization security play in the market. In fact, it was one of the first commercial virtual appliances released for VMware. Back in the early part of 2006, the company announced Reflex VSA, the industry’s first virtual security appliance for virtualized environments. Reflex VSA allowed enterprises deploying virtual computing technology to secure virtualized networks with firewall protection and intrusion prevention. And at VMworld 2008, less than two months ago, Reflex was awarded Best of Show for its Reflex Virtual Security Center product.

But the company is trying to expand itself beyond just a security focus, which could prove to be a challenge as it enters a highly competitive and noisy market. A company spokesperson told me that the name change directly reflects the company’s evolvement to a virtual infrastructure management solution. And the company is taking on that challenge with its new functionality in Reflex Virtual Management Center (VMC). But don’t think Reflex is abandoning its security roots; the new management functionality is in addition to Reflex Systems’ existing security offerings.

“Our offerings have grown to include market-driven virtual infrastructure management capabilities as the virtual computing industry has matured,” said Pete Privateer, CEO of Reflex Systems. “Keeping the Reflex brand in our new name is very appropriate since, as a pioneering organization, we have not lost sight of the ability to react and innovate to swiftly meet the evolving needs of the market.”
