Caught in the MPC Chapter 11 mess (or any warranty mess, for that matter)? Maybe your credit card can help. Bill wrote with an excellent suggestion for any of you who have been caught in the MPC Chapter 11 mess. “MPC customers who purchased their computer with a credit card may be able to make a claim against the card,” he says. “My wife purchased an extended warranty from a store that later went out of business. We made a claim against our credit card and received a refund.”Yes! I wish I’d thought of this tip!In fact, this purchase protection is true for many purchases, not only those where the seller goes under, and not only computers. In fact, it’s a feature worth considering when you apply for a credit card and when choose which credit card to use for major purchases. If you have a Visa card, the service is called Warranty Manager. It is offered on Visa Signature cards but also on other cards, so you should check with you card issuer to see if you have this service. According to the Visa site, “Warranty Manager Service offers you a number of valuable features, including warranty registration and Extended Warranty Protection.” So if you are unable to get MPC to respond to your warranty claims and you used a credit card to purchase that computer, call your credit card company and see if they can help. While we are on the subject of credit card protections, your credit card may also offer other services, including product replacement if an item is damaged or stolen within 90 days of purchase.
