VMware updates its Mac OS X virtualization solution, keeping the race between it and Parallels alive and well.

Only a few days after Parallels launched its newest version of their Mac OS X virtualization software, Parallels Desktop 4.0, VMware quickly reminded the Mac community that there was a competing product on the market: VMware Fusion.

VMware updated Fusion with a minor dot release to Version 2.0.1. The latest version includes a number of resolves issues, product improvements, and, like Parallels, performance enhancements.

Performance enhancements in 2.0.1 include fixes made to CPU utilization, boot times, and load times. Other improvements include an update to shared and mirrored folders, a fix to the nested folders data loss issues, a change to the way AutoProtect handles snapshots, hints enabled in the Help menu, improvements made to the Unity view, and the problems resolved with certain video games and 3D applications freezing the Mac.

VMware’s latest version is available now as a free download for existing Fusion customers, including those users of Fusion 1.x. Not a user yet? You can download a trial of VMware Fusion 2.0.1 on VMware’s Web site to get your feet wet.
