Veeam increases its virtualization portfolio with the launch of its first rebranded version of the nworks technology it acquired six months ago.

Veeam Software has a growing list of systems management tools for VMware ESX environments. This week, the company announced the latest addition to its management tool belt, a 4.0 version of its nworks enterprise management connectors.

Back in June of this year, Veeam acquired nworks to help enhance its systems management story. And only six months later in typical Veeam speed, the company is ready to announce its first major update to the newly acquired product.

Version 4.0 includes new features and updates for the nworks Smart Plug-in (SPI) for VMware for HP Software Operations Manager, and the nworks Management Pack (MP) for VMware for Microsoft System Center Operations Manager.

The new MP adds end-to-end monitoring from ESX cluster, to ESX host, to virtual machine, and to the applications running inside the virtual machines. Another new feature includes leveraging the data collected from Operations Manager agents running inside a Windows virtual machine to give Veeam an even bigger overall picture of the environment. And it keeps Veeam from creating and adding a new agent to the mix.

Veeam now provides new VirtualCenter 2.5 performance counters that offer greater visibility into the behavior of the IT environment. As an example, the company says it can identify disk bottlenecks by monitoring disk latency to back-end storage.

Version 4.0 also adds greater flexibility when it comes to collection intervals (users can now select from 5-, 10-, 15-, or 20-minute intervals); it adds a new graphical view of VMware data stores; and it adds a new and comprehensive set of System Center Data Warehouse Reports (ESX Host, VM and Cluster Performance History, Top ‘N’ Resource Users, ESX Host and VM Configuration, ESX Hardware Power, Temperature and Cooling).

The new version is available now, and customers currently on maintenance for the SPI or the MP can receive the new version at no additional charge.
