Lanamark Suite 2009 adds support for profiling Citrix XenServer and VMware ESX, as well as 140 other enhancements to help with monitoring, reporting, and capacity planning

Lanamark, the Canadian-based provider of virtualization capacity planning and IT assessment software, has announced the release of its latest solution: Lanamark Suite 2009.

This latest version includes support for monitoring Citrix XenServer and VMware ESX; supplements server information with power consumption, form factor, age, and warranty metrics; and simplifies capacity planning with significant user experience and reporting automation enhancements.

Reporting enhancements include the following:

  • Report variable support in Lanamark plug-in for Microsoft Office Word 2007
  • Include/exclude workloads and machines from report items using selectors
  • Import/export reports and report items for improved collaboration

“EMA research has shown that up-front capacity planning for both physical and virtual infrastructure is vital for achieving major benefits of virtualization like cost reduction, resource efficiency, and business agility,” said Andi Mann, research director for IT analyst firm Enterprise Management Associates.

To further expand its reach, development is underway at the company to add support for Microsoft Hyper-V and other platforms. And the company said it has made significant enhancements for Linux support.

“As enterprises continue to adopt virtualization, one of the biggest challenges is how to reap strategic benefits of this cost-saving technology without under- or over-provisioning physical and virtual infrastructure,” said Mark Angelo, CEO of Lanamark. “Lanamark Suite 2009 enables desktop and server virtualization planning to be performed in the context of existing and newly deployed Citrix XenServer and VMware ESX hosts, with support for Microsoft Hyper-V and other platforms already under development.”

Lanamark Suite 2009 now includes monitoring of Citrix XenServer and VMware ESX free of charge for all assessments commencing prior to March 31. Standard licensing per desktop or server workload per assessment still applies.
