Yahoo introduced a new audio search service, which is getting immediate response from interested reviewers. The service, which the company began testing Thursday, allows users to comb through more than 50 million music, voice and other files for free, IDG News Service reported. Users simply need to do is punch in words or phrases, say, of a song and are given a list of audio files that they can click on and play. “I’m impressed with this first release of Yahoo Audio Search,” wrote Gary Price in his review of the service in his blog on Search Engine Watch. “However, improvements are still needed. I’m looking forward to seeing what the next release offers in terms of features, relevancy, and organization of results. “I’m also interested to see how Yahoo handles tracks that might be available on the ‘open web’ illegally but also available from a legal, music service,” he said.If a song is for sale by a music site, such as iTunes or Napster, Yahoo Audio will link to a Web page where it can be purchased. The new service will include podcasts, which are recordings made to be played on a computer or a digital device, such as Apple Computer’s iPod player. Yahoo’s new service will also point users to news, photos and the Web sites of artists, as well as information about their work. Technology Industry
