Real World SOA: Dave Linthicum, who spoke at InfoWorld’s conference in San Francisco on Thursday, sums up the state of SOA: “After a year or two of trying to figure out SOA, people are much more sophisticated about the approaches and technologies. They are not looking for quick fixes, but practical ways to make this stuff work.” He’s also posted a podcast from the event (16MB).

Columnists’ corner: Robert X. Cringely writes Google’s deal to by Writely defines the exit strategy for the new millennium: Stay in business just long enough to get bought by Google. Roger Grimes plugs port knocking, and David L. Margulius talks telecom mergers.

The news beat: As we await the word of the court’s ruling on the DOJ’s request for Google search data, the online darling has won another case on copyright. Vodafone and Yahoo are said to be eyeing a content deal. And a distraction from enterprise: A German company is going to make intelligent flooring embedded with RFID chips.
