Lawsuit claims TCL is violating four patents; LG seeks to prevent TCL from selling digital TV products that use the patented technology

LG Electronics has filed a lawsuit against China’s biggest television maker, TCL Multimedia Technology Holdings, for allegedly infringing on four of its patents.

The lawsuit, dated Feb. 9 and filed in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Texas against TCL and its U.S. subsidiary, TTE Electronics, comes after extended negotiations between LG and TTE failed to resolve the issue, the South Korean company said in a statement.

LG is seeking monetary damages and a court order to stop the alleged infringement of these patents, according to the complaint, a copy of which was obtained by IDG News Service.

TTE and TCL could not immediately be reached for comment.

LG claims TTE and TCL violated four patents registered in the U.S. The patents are described in the complaint filed with the court as a “remotely selectable audio/video/text disruption,” an “automated flat panel display control system for accommodating broad range of video types and formats,” an “open cable set-top box diagnosing system and method thereof,” and a “virtual channel table for a broadcast protocol and method for broadcasting and receiving broadcast signals using the same.”

The LG complaint claims TTE and TCL are selling television sets in the U.S. that violate one or more of the listed patents. The complaint did not specify which product models are alleged to infringe on the patents.
