Serena Software on Wednesday announced intentions to acquire Pacific Edge Software, which offers project and portfolio management products.

Serena describes itself as a change governance provider, enabling customers to control change by integrating development, implementation and adoption of change processes and policies across an enterprise. The company’s approach bridges silos of change in an organization and creates a common frame of reference for business and IT to provide quality of service while reducing costs and risks of implementing change, Serena said.

Through the Pacific Edge acquisition, Serena plans to extend its change governance offerings to enable customers to control time, cost and resource impacts of business and IT change.

Pacific Edge’s flagship product has been Pacific Edge Mariner, which combines portfolio, project, resource, demand and financial management into a decision support framework for a user’s project and portfolio management initiative.

Serena expects the acquisition to close by the end of this month. No details on the cost of the acquisition were immediately provided.
