Cisco, Fujitsu team on high-end networking

Fujitsu has joined the networking parade by agreeing to sell Cisco’s high-end routers and switches in Japan.

It should come as no surprise as the market for high-end routers heats up. Cisco and Juniper Networks have seen strong revenue growth in the high-end router area. According to the Dell’Oro Group, the market for high-end routers grew 33 percent in the third quarter to $347 million.

It is pretty much the same story in the switch market. Cisco and other vendors such as Foundry and Force10 have all beefed up their switching portfolios with new and upgraded switches and systems and systems designed to make 10 Gigabit Ethernet affordable, increase availability, boost security and add power over Ethernet features.

The story of increased network bandwidth even extends to phones, where Cisco has introduced a phone that is Gigabit Ethernet-enabled. It comes with just about everything but Ernestine, LilyTomlin’s operator character. Remember operators? Didn’t think so.
