Java Standard Edition (SE) 6, the next release of the Java platform, has received its approvals from the Java Community Process Executive Committee.

Java Specification Request 270 and several related specifications have been approved, paving the way for Java SE 6 to be released in December, according to Sun Microsystems. Java SE 6 includes features such as the ability to mix in JavaScript with Java source code, for prototyping purposes, and support for writing XML Web service client applications. The Java DB database is included for building database applications.

More diagnostic information also is featured, as is the Jhat memory-heap analysis tool for exploring core dumps. Simplified security administration is highlighted as well, with support for native Public Key Infrastructure and cryptographic services on Microsoft Windows.

The approvals for Java SE 6 are noted by Danny Coward, Java SE platform lead at Sun, in his blog.
