Every year IDC makes IT predictions for the coming year, and today the analyst house is unveiling those for 2005.

Among the highlights are:

— An increase of 6 percent worldwide in IT spending.

— Businesses moving toward what IDC calls a dynamic IT environment.

— Hardware commoditization that, as expected, results in lower pricing.

— Software infrastructure products will expand through mergers and partnerships.

— The notion of a killer app metamorphosing into the killer application platform.

— An increase in offshore outsourcing.

As I noted, that list is just an overview. We’ll have the full story this afternoon, so check back at InfoWorld.com for it.
