Pick your size – Qrisma 6GB 1″ drive

I have a few personal storage devices that I have been testing and now it’s time to begin sharing my findings. I will start with a minuscule 1″ drive from Qrisma. More personal storage devices will follow. If you want something really small but able to pack gigabytes look at the drives from Qrisma. They have different models including USB flash drives and actual disk drives in 1″ and larger size.

My pet at the moment is a Qrisma 6GB miniature drive View image built around a 1″ device. Its footprint is a 2.5″ x 13/16th wide rectangle. This baby is only half an inch thick and very, very light.

Push a button on the surface and a USB connector jumps out like a jack knife. It sticks out only 1.25″ but to simplify connecting to oddly positioned USB ports you can twist the tip of the connector 90 degrees clockwise and 90 degrees counterclockwise.

I tried to find at least one machine to which I couldn’t connect the drive, but I had to concede defeat. It connected without problems even to the USB ports on the back of a Dell PowerEdge 1850.

If you don’t have that 1U server you should know that its rear USB ports are recessed more than 1 inch from the end of the chassis. I did not find a back view of the server but this link should clarify what I mean. view image Did you see the recessed area in the back? Like they say about New York, if you can make it (work) there…

More reasons why I like the 6GB Qrisma: its usable space, 5.72GB according to Windows, is large enough to copy the full content of a DVD, which can come in handy. Doesn’t need a power supply, is reasonably fast and at about $140 shouldn’t break any budget.

Just make sure you don’t misplace it, because it could be hard to find. Now, where in the world did I leave mine?
