In addition to Yahoo rejecting Microsoft’s bid today there are, of course, several other noteworthy stories.

Hacker attacks on Adobe’s Reader and Acrobat intensify, after the company issued patches last week but declined to detail the vulnerabilities. Now, hackers can create a malicious PDF document that, if opened, downloads a Trojan dubbed Zonebac.

Boosting its effort on wireless phones and devices, Microsoft steps up its mobile consumer push with a new application for delivering “snippets” of data to Windows Mobile devices. That’s one of several announcements it has planned for the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona.

In another geographical location, meanwhile, Microsoft’s Office developer conference will get underway. At this shindig, the Redmond giant will push its productivity suite as an application development platform in and of itself.

Not related to the word last month that it is considering spinning off its handset unit, Motorola and Nortel are in talks about combining their wireless infrastructures, according to reports, which suggest Nortel would own the majority of the joint venture.

And Forrester Research slashes its global IT outlook. Still predicting increased IT spending, the analyst house dropped its U.S. growth projection to 2.8 percent from 4.6 percent, and its global forecast to 6 percent from 9 percent. Forrester cited the threat of a U.S. recession as reason enough to affect spending globally.
