Price/performance matters when considering which system to buy, even if most folks don’t hear enough about it these days.

That’s where AMD’s tactics become more important that ever for the chipmaker.

“AMD counters the gearhead-level speeds and feeds derived from synthetic benchmarks with IT-relevant load metrics,” Tom Yager explains in AMD’s server roadmap burns through Intel’s fog.

“AMD is always cautious about projecting too far ahead, fearing that system buyers might suspect Intel-like obsolescence by design. AMD is smart to come out swinging by laying out present and future technology despite the risk, but amid the excitement over architectures to come, the value of AMD’s long-term commitment to buyers can’t be set aside.”
