On IT and agile business change

Asking IT shops to manage business changes is often akin to letting children choose where to sleep rather than parents assigning bedrooms.

That’s the assertion one reader makes when writing into Advice Line columnist Bob Lewis for his take.

Lewis has an answer: “Once upper management takes on this role, the business loses agility,” he writes in A question about agile business change. “It’s the classic trade-off between control and velocity.”

And of course IT is one of the few places in a company where all, or most, changes can come together, Lewis adds.
