Google, at its I/O conference in San Francisco, gave a slick demonstration of an Android-based phone, replete with touch-screen functionality, advanced graphics, and Internet access, all of which resemble the iPhone. But Google officials maintain they’ll not be facing off against Apple in the handset arena.

Mozilla is shooting for Guinness’ geekiest entry ever and trying to set a world record with its upcoming browser on “Download Day,” for which it is soliciting users to pledge that they’ll download Firefox 3 on its release date.

CEO Michael Dell, meanwhile, was spotted carrying what looked to be a small, unidentified notebook PC, and the hardware giant has since posted pictures hinting that the device might be called a “Mini-Inspiron” to compete with Hewlett-Packard’s Mini-Note 2133.

Taking a markedly different tack than Intel, Via says it will not institute technology limits for its Nano processor. And as Apple unveils the sixth beta version of its iPhone SDK and, right along with it, says that iPhone SDK 6 requires Leopard 10.5.3. So anyone hoping to use the new SDK must also upgrade to the OS Apple released last evening.
