Development continues on a PHP language compiler for the .Net Framework, a Microsoft representative acknowledged on Thursday.

Available on the Microsoft CodePlex site, the Phalanger v2.0 project is in a beta phase and is available as part of Microsoft’s Shared Source initiative for code access. Although not actually an internal Microsoft project, Phalanger is intended to enable developers to use PHP (Hypertext Preprocessor) on the .Net Framework. Codeplex is a portal for collaborative development projects, enabling developers to work as virtual teams, according to a Microsoft representative.

Integration with Visual Studio 2005 is a goal of Beta 2 of Phalanger. An integration package will be available “very soon,” according to the Phalanger site on CodePlex.
