Microsoft: Support Windows 7, or else!

Although Microsoft has offered a taste of what IT, and users, can expect from Windows 7, a level of secrecy continues to surround the forthcoming OS.

News also came that Microsoft is reworking its logo requirements for hardware vendors such that to earn the “Certified for Windows Vista” stamp, they’ll need to also provide results from a compatibility testing tool to ship with the first Windows 7 beta, Randall Kennedy reports in this Enterprise Desktop post.

Now, that’s not to say the desktop and notebook PCs have to actually pass the Windows 7 test, just that Microsoft wants the results.

“The company hopes to identify potential trouble spots early in the release cycle, giving it more time to address them and/or work with vendors to correct any problems the tool identifies,” Kennedy explains. “Frankly, it makes a lot of sense.”
