Google’s I/O conference wrapped up last evening, but not before an after hours event on Wednesday featuring, among others, Flight of the Concords. Oh yes, and enough twentysomethings foregoing free beer for soda to remind Neil McAllister of the somewhat olden days. Soda included, as well as Rubik’s Cubes and Legos, “the whole event seemed designed to conjure what it must be like to land a young geek’s dream job at Google,” McAllister writes in Geeks in heaven at Google I/O.“The mood was energized, exuberant, and — dare I say it? — decidedly dot-com,” he adds. The thing is, “ten years ago, the exuberance of the dot-com boom was already giving way to the nagging dread that the piper would soon be calling, and someone would have to pony up.” Technology Industry
