NAC: Sophos is a good start

There is a wide variety of NAC (network access control) products available, showing a broad range of thinking about policy-based security controls and the management of the network in general.

InfoWorld’s Test Center looks today at Sophos NAC Advanced. The bottom line? “Sophos NAC Advanced offers a comprehensive agent-based policy assessment and enforcement system for Windows endpoints, and the ability to integrate into standards-based environments to leverage DHCP, 802.1X, VLANs, and RADIUS for network-based enforcement.

“Sophos NAC Advanced is a solid approach to protecting Windows systems in an enterprise environment,” says Contributing Editor Steve Hultquist. “[ But] with the growth of both Mac OS X and Linux in the enterprise, its current lack of support for these platforms may be an issue for those seeking to install policy-based networking.”
