New Satellite and Qosmio laptops, with prices starting at $1,150, offer expanded entertainment options with inclusion of HD-DVD drives

Toshiba on Monday pushed high-definition technology into new laptops, expanding entertainment options for budget users.

The Satellite A205 and Qosmio F45 laptops provide HD-DVD drives and entertainment options to more users at an affordable price, said Ronald Ching, a Toshiba spokesman. The company introduced HD-DVD drives in Qosmio G35-AV650 laptops last year.

The Satellite A205-S7468 includes an HD-DVD-ROM drive and a 720p high-definition screen so that users can watch HD movies. Priced at $1,150, the laptop will run on an Intel Core 2 Duo T5250 processor, with a 200GB hard drive, 2GB of RAM (expandable to 4GB), 802.11a/g/n wireless networking, Mobile Intel Graphics Media Accelerator card, and a Webcam. It runs the Windows Vista Home Premium OS and weighs around 6 pounds (2.7 kilograms).

This is the first Satellite with a 15.4-inch screen to have an HD-DVD-ROM drive, said Anthony Aponte, a Toshiba spokesman.

Toshiba also announced the Qosmio F45-AV425 laptop, which includes an HD-DVD drive, HDMI (High-Definition Multimedia Interface) ports to stream high-definition images to external devices, and Harman Kardon stereo speakers with a built-in subwoofer. The $1,649 laptop is powered by the Intel Core 2 Duo T7250 processor, with 2GB of memory, a 15.4-inch screen, 300GB hard drive, an Nvidia GeForce 8600M GT graphics card, 802.11a/g/n wireless networking, a Webcam, and a fingerprint reader. It runs the Windows Vista Ultimate OS and weighs around 6.6 pounds.
