John Riccitiello will become the new CEO of Electronic Arts, the company he left in 2004 to join a venture capital firm, EA announced Monday.

Riccitiello previously worked for EA from 1997 until 2004, when he resigned after serving as its president and chief operating officer. He went on to co-found Elevation Partners, a venture capital firm, with Paul Hewson, better known as Bono, the lead singer of U2, and Roger McNamee. Riccitiello will assume his new post on April 2, EA said.

The new CEO will also serve on the board of directors. He replaces Larry Probst, who will remain with EA as the company’s executive chairman of the board of directors, EA said.
