Developers can build mobile Web apps that mimic Apple iOS, Google Android, or Windows Phone 7 with version 6.0 of Agile Platform OutSystems is offering an upgrade to its Agile Platform for application development that now features an environment for building mobile Web applications.Version 6.0 of Agile Platform enables developers to build Web applications that mimic Apple iOS, Google Android, or Windows Phone 7. “You can now build mobile Web applications that have a look and feel of any type of native application,” said Mike Jones, vice president of marketing for OutSystems.Geared for building mobile and Web applications, Agile Platform features an IDE and a back-end repository. A model-based platform, it generates native Java or .Net code. An operational console manages source code configuration management and deployment capabilities. It also offers an open source project management tool and can be deployed either in-house or via a new platform-as-a-service version offered on a pay-as-you-go basis. The product is positioned as an agile development tool because it is designed to support changing development changes. An engine running in the background of the product validates the model and will fix problems occurring when changes are made. Or, developers will be alerted to changes that need to be fixed.OutSystems has redesigned the actual development tool in version 6.0 to improve development speed. “The major thing is we really [reorganized] the way the model objects are presented,” said Jones. Now, there are business process, data, and logic layers, and the user interface. The upgrade, announced late last week, also comes with a series of full-functioning business applications embedded in the tools, called apps@outsystems.
