Windows 8 is a major shift in the Windows operating system, even though under the hood (on Intel-based computers, anyhow) much of the familiar Windows 7 lives on. But the new Metro interface — and the ability for that part of Windows 8 to run on ARM-based mobile devices, as well as Intel-based PCs and devices — brings a whole new type of application environment as well as user experience to the Windows world.
